Description: Four needlework samplers
mid-atlantic region, 19th century
The first, worked by "Rhoda Prior, Aged 8 years," with spot devices of potted plants, trees and columns enclosing pious verse; the second, bearing inscription, "Judith Moore worked this in the 8th year," with Adam and Eve flanking apple tree, various spot devices; the third, worked by "Sarah Anne Williamson, 1832" with floral vine border, spot devices and verse; and the fourth, inscribed, "E Huggins" within reserve enclosed by alphabet, numbers, potted flowers, butterflies and strawberry vine, all four worked with polychrome silk threads on linen ground, unframed.
