Very good condition
This depiction is a satirical or comical representation, which shows animals behave like humans and caricature myths and Buddhist rites. Toba-e were named after the monk Toba Sojo, who is said to have created the genre in the 11th century.
Condition:
The woodcut is in very good condition. Natural yellowing (maturity) of the paper. The print has a dimension of c. 29.3 x 44.5 cm.
TOKURIKI Tomikichiro (1902-1999)
TOKURIKI belongs to a family of artists and studied at the Kyoto School of Arts and Crafts as well as at the Art Academy of Kyoto, where he graduated in 1923 with an exam. There he discovered his passion for the Sosaku Hanga style. In the 1960’s his works were exhibited in numerous exhibitions in America. TOKURIKI was primarily known for his landscapes in pastel stick, soft colors, depicting famous cities of Japan.
