Description: A Japanese lacquer small box, kogo, decorated with Hannya mask
18th century
Decorated with a demonic mask and gong beater, from the tale of the Monk Anchin and Kiyohime at the Dojoji monestary, reserved against a triangular "dragonscale" diaper worked in gold and colored lacquer hiramaki-e and takamaki-e; the sides and interior on a nashiji ground, pewter mounts.
