Description: A Japanese merchant's zelkova "Daiwa" hibachi
circa 1880
Possibly crafted in the Shiga prefecture, for the Kyoto merchant class, the rectangular wood case with three short drawers below and two metal containers within linked to the metal hibachi, a massive timber collar surrounding the lip of the case, together with a cast iron kettle with bronze cover, possibly from Iwate or Yamagata prefecture.
