Description: A Tibetan thanka depicting a wrathful deity
19th century
Opaque color on prepared cloth, silk brocade mount; depicting the wrathful deity, possibly a Mahakala or Yamaraja, brandishing a phurba and holding a kapala, a snake scarf entwined about him, standing in his palace, surrounded by his retinue, mounted, framed, and glazed.
Approximate sight H: 24 1/2 in., 62.3cm; W: 18 3/4 in., 47.5cm; approximate overall silk mount H: 44 1/2 in., 113cm; W: 28 in., 71cm.
PROVENANCE:
Accquired by the grandfather of the present owner in China in the 1920s.
Thence by descent.
