Chinese Ming Dynasty Wucai double headed porcelain dragon seal. Cuboid form with flattened sides. Large carved double headed dragon with large gaping mouths revealing sharp imposing teeth, resting above the flattened top. The sides exterior wrapped in Wucai five-colored pigments creates bold opaque hand painting of dragons chasing the divine flaming pearls over white underglazed ground. The underside carved with six seal script, with extensive trace of red pigment. The upper side of the seal bears Wanli six script characters reign mark enclosed by fine square frame in underglazed blue, Ming Dynasty.
PROVENANCE: James Barnes (1939-2016) of Memphis, TN; survived by two sisters who have decided to sell some of his treasured collections to fund charitable foundations that he was actively involved in. These collections were inherited from his Father-in-law (Kenneth Harlin) at his passing in 1967. Mr. Harlin had an early film career in the 1920-1930s as an international traveler he was able to bring back treasures from around the world.
