EXTRAORDINARY, Chinese Qing Dynasty nephrite celadon jade censer. The jade is carved in a compressed globular vessel, gently tapered on the shoulder elevating the banded rim, raised on splayed concave foot base. Two archaic dragon head patterned handles flanked on the shoulder. The hardwood dome lid decorated with open-work carvings of scrolling twigs and crowned by a jade carved Lingzhi fungus finial. Lingzhi is known as the fungus of immortality, considered by the Daoist mystics as the nourishment of the Immortals (Xian) and ‘ruyi’ a wish for success without any obstacles, according to wishes, signifies good wishes for future prosperity. The exterior is finely polished, smooth and radiant, revealing the natural quality of the stone. Jade stone shows pale white-celadon iridescent with moist milky appearance along the surface. Elegantly presented upon a carved hardwood stand.
