场次描述
We have a bumper offering of fashion and textiles to tempt you with this fall. There are lashings of great ready to wear including Yves Saint Laurent haute couture, Ossie Clark, Bill Gibb, Zandra Rhodes, Vivienne Westwood, Chanel, Hermes as well as more unusual collectors’ pieces from every decade. Fashion ranges from a hand-painted silk open-robe of the 1770s, through to Comme de Garcons of the 2000s. We have the ultimate Halloween party dress – a late 1920s beaded flapper superbly embroidered with cobwebs and embroidered spider (lot 229)!

Royalty collectors may be enticed by some regal underwear – Princess Louise’s (Her Royal Shyness) 1870s nightdress, Princess May of Teck’s 1890s petticoat as well as a court dress worn by Lady Eileen Knox as a train-bearer at the 1911 coronation and a debutante’s ostrich fan used at her Presentation in 1925. Also quintessentially British – we have Pearly King & Queen ensembles from the 1910s (lots 381 and 382).

We are also pleased to present the final part of Sam McKnight’s stylish designer wardrobe, lots 253 to 261, (who says there is never anything for the boys?) sold in aid of Beauty Banks and Cool Earth charities as well as Peter Seller’s double-breasted wool coat from 1966, and pairs of beautifully embroidered antique braces.

We offer another tranche of Jean-Louis Scherrer catwalk pieces (lots 104 to 133) – shimmering with sequins, floating with feathers or of the finest tailoring – the ultimate in luxury and perfect for any Red Carpet event near you!

Marta Clare (now aged 90) has decided it is time to part with her prized shawl collection which she began in the 1970's. An accomplished concert pianist, in her travels across the globe she and her conductor-husband trawled auctions and antique shops in pursuit of the finest examples from Kashmir, Norwich, Edinburgh, Paisley and Paris. The collection will be sold in aid of The Moorfields Eye Hospital (lots 441 to 463).

Two textiles also have a fascinating provenance - finely embroidered Chinese coverlets circa 1800 (lots 484 and 485). They were originally acquired by British textile magnate, Sir Francis Cook, 1st Bt. (1817-1901) for his great Hispano-Moresque Palace of Monserrate at Sintra in Portugal. Both coverlets remained at Monserrate until circa 1930 when brought to one of the Cook family's English properties by The Hon. Lady Cook (1873-1943). She in turn gave them as wedding gifts to the present vendor’s family in 1942.

The auction has 2 sessions:

10am: Session 1 - Lots 1 to 311
2.30pm: Session 2 - Lots 312 to end of sale
