This shallow bowl is finely potted with gently everted sides terminating in a wide silver-banded rim. It displays a lovely light pearl glaze and the interior reveals an engraved lotus pattern. Ding ware was fired upside down so that the kilns could fire more items at the same time. The glaze had to be wiped from the rim to avoid adhesion and the resulting post-fired rim was left unglazed and rough. N. Song Dynasty
