A Chinese DouCai, ceremonial wine urn, kendi with a matching funnel cover. The kendi itself features a garlic bulb head with an overall pattern of stylized lotus and vine. A band of blue stylized waves encircles lower neck. The beginning of the upper shoulder shows a key-fret diaper and a ruyi collar beneath. The body displays the Eight Buddhist Symbols interspersed with multicolored lotus and stylized lotus and vine pattern. A three-colored lappet of lotus petals girdles the base. The flared foot exhibits a border of stylized lotus and vine. The spout is in the shape of a raised qilin head in a persimmon color with bristling tusks. Note the jowls under the head and the true-white eyeballs and teeth. The white spout emerges as a trunk, giving the appearance of an angry elephant. The funnel exhibits a soft green on the rolled top with a design of stylized lotus and vine bordered on each side by a thin gold collet.
