黃花梨大型畫案極為罕有，本具難得傳世，彌足珍貴。其尺寸尤巨，用料闊綽，當屬鴻範之作。黃花梨木稀罕矜貴，隨時日采伐愈趨匱乏，同類畫案常見薄材代之以降成本，故時有勢弱之弊。本案用料十足，案面寬闊厚碩，寬逾203公分（80英寸），深66公分（26英寸），下接之邊框、牙子、牙條，以至腿足一概為厚材，相當豪奢。如斯渾然天成之家具宏構，極考斧工與巧思，得駕馭巨幅木材，兼擅以簡練造型渲染跌宕氣勢，是出巨匠之手，曠世難遇。 文人書房以畫案居中，既可開卷閲讀、寫字作畫，更能展玩珍藏、休憩宴集。凡尺寸與本案相若者，皆可歸類為畫案。一件正中畫案，必備寬廣桌面，以展卷大幅書畫，旁置紙、筆、墨、硯文房四寶而咫尺不逼，寬舒綽裕。 同類經典畫案可參考一例，十六至十七世紀製，比例與腿足造型皆與本案相似，載於王世襄、柯惕思（C.
