A beautiful deep Wanli cobalt blue plate with phoenix design that is so very old.The porcelain hand thrown plate has a design of three phoenixes in flight equidistant on the cavetto with a central medallion of a phoenix in the clouds. The cobalt glaze has a slight blueish tinge to it and is very soft and not super shiny. The plate has a slight rise to the lip and a shallow raised foot with an unglazed foot ring. The base is glazed.It is hand painted and hand thrown. You can see the pottera€?s wheel marks under the glaze on the base. There is a factory mark in Zhuanshu script on the base in cobalt blue. There is also a collection paper sticker on the base that reads a€?BRYDEN COLLECTIONa€ with the number 015MEASUREMENTS 7 ??a€ (19.7 cm) diameter x 1 5/8a€ (4.1 cm) deep. Weighs 11. 2 oz (320 g)CONDITION The plate has no chips, cracks, or breaks, and it rings like a bell. There are kiln flaws such as cobalt explosions, black dots, reserve dots, foot ring chips and pimples. There is much wear because of usage and age but it still looks great for being so very old.A large plate to give richness, age and substance to a d??cor. The cobalt blue is so very nice.
