A classic Chinese handmade work of art that is masterfully carved and painted with a lustrous deep gold lacquer and red paint. The wood is light and well carved with a design of an immortal riding a Chi lin. The carving is very intricate and details with the fine lines of hair, scales, facial features and robe. The base and undersides are a red color as is the hat on the immortals head. The rest of the carving has a thick, shiny and well painted gold lacquer. There is good control with no mistakes. The piece may have been attached to another piece at one time. There is a rectangular hole cut in the middle of the base, and the underside of the Chi lin is partially painted red but has an unpainted gap in the middle. There with a circular hole in the middle of this gap. I do believe the entire carving is from a single piece of wood. The base has two painted characters. The base is not painted and shows age and oxidization.MEASUREMENTS 5 3/16a€ (13.3 cm) tall x 3 ??a€ (9.1 cm) deep x 2 ??a€ (5.7 cm) wide.
