A long Chinese silk panel embroidered its entire length with gold couched threads. The panel is a pair of mirror images joined in the center. It was probably originally a pair of robe sleeve bands. Two rectangular wide bands replete with embroidered five-clawed dragons, phoenix, goldfish, flowers, mythical beasts flying amongst the clouds, waves and a mountain. These designs are embroidered on a blue a€“ almost turquoise - silk ground and joined in the center. Each half is a mirror image of the other. A broad beige silk band embroidered with very small and fine flowers, peacock feathers, and butterflies frames the panels. The back is a green silk. The piece has a black silk edge. There are no marks or labels. One corner on the back has the remnant of a paper label.MEASUREMENTS 48 5/8a€ (123.5 cm) long x 12 ??a€ (32.4 cm) wide. Weighs 4.8 oz (140 g)CONDITION The central blue silk panels are in very good shape. There is only one flower that has a pulled thread. There is no unraveling or staining otherwise on this central panel. The beige embroidered border has staining and some unraveling. The backing looks good with no staining.I love the design of the five claw dragons and the phoenix. It gives it an imperial panache. It is in very good shape for the age.Item ID: A-1881
