An elaborate, colorful, finely painted and very large Japanese Imari charger from an early time period that will definitely make a statement in your home. You cana€?t overlook this large Imari charger.Very large slightly concave porcelain charger with a shallow foot that has been glazed in under glaze cobalt and over glaze enamels. The charger is richly decorated with red, green, gray and gold. Black has been used to outline and accent. Around the cavetto are a series of phoenix panels bordered by elaborate fabric like designs. The central medallion has a water scene with Mandarin ducks. The underside is decorated with cobalt blue Buddhist symbols and a border in cobalt blue above the foot. The foot is unglazed. The base is glazed with three sager marks near the middle. The under glaze cobalt that has been used is a nice smoky blue color.MEASUREMENTS 18a€ (45.7 cm) diameter x 2a€ (5.1 cm) tall. Weighs 7 lb 1.5 oz (3.21 kg)CONDITION There are no chips, cracks, or breaks. The charger rings true. There is wear to the gilding on the mouth edge. There is an enamel loss near the cobalt border of the central medallion and another smaller one about 6 ??a€ from the first one, near the edge (this is circled in one of the photos) There are a few wear scratches to the central medallion. There are dimples and black spots in the glaze from firing. The glazes are fresh and bright.This Imari charger is a real show stopper with its size and coloring.
