An early blue and white vase from the Kangxi period with a familiar design of grapes and vines. It has that wonderful deep cobalt blue of that period. Ita€?s all hand potted and hand painted. An urn shaped porcelain jar with a short neck that opens to a round small mouth. The body tapers down and inward to a round base. The glaze, which has a bluish tinge and looks shiny, feels so smooth, thick, and unctuous. The cobalt used is a nice deep Kangxi blue and feels raised. The design is hand painted showing a fast expert hand. There is a lappet border on the neck, a line at the mouth and a crosshatch border at the base. The lid matches the base and has the same grape motif and deep cobalt blue. The lid edge has a line of iron brown. The inside of the mouth of the vase is unglazed. The underside of the lid is unglazed and shows the wheel marks and the white refined clay. The unglazed foot has a nice refined feel and the clay is fairly white. The foot is cut and the glaze ground along the foot edge. The base is glazed and shows the pottera€?s wheel rings as well as the chatter marks radiating from the center.MEASUREMENTS 8 ??a€ tall x 3 ??a€ diameter. Weighs 1 lb 1.6 oz (495 g)CONDITION There is an inner rim chip on the vase mouth and chips on the lid edge. The finial on the lid is missing. The glazes are bright and shiny and look fresh. There are no other breaks or cracks.I love the Kangxi blue of this piece. It will make a great addition to a d??cor using blue and white. It adds age and substance to a d??cor.___________________Item ID: Por-1686
