Handmade porcelain figures of Chinese immortals with a lot of detail and handwork. I especially like the painting of the faces. The bodies of the pair of approximately 9a€ tall statues bodies are painted in blue, red, green, brown over glaze enamels with gilt detailing. Black has been used for detailing on the faces and for the shoes and collar decoration. The robes show movement and nice draping. The bases have nice distinctive moldings of clouds, which swirl with movement. The bisque of the clouds has been painted with brown and then clear glazed over. The faces and heads are realistic with even holes in the ears and nostrils. The faces and hands are unglazed, which gives a more natural appearance. The glazes on the garments are thin showing the ceramic below. The bases are unglazed with firing holes. One of the figurines has remnants of a red stamped CHINA mark. This figurine also has an impressed rectangular cartouche with Chinese characters.MEASUREMENTS Male 9 ??a€ (24.2 cm) tall x 3 3/8a€ (8.6 cm) wide. Female 9 1/8a€ (23.4 cm) tall x approximate 3a€ (7.7 cm) wide Total weight 1 lb 6.9 oz (650 g)CONDITION There is one break on the larger figurine. It is the hilt of his sword on his back by his shield. There are no cracks, chips or wear.Highly decorative Chinese statues with a juxtaposition of glazed and unglazed surfaces. It gives them an illusion of reality.Item ID: Por-734
