Very ornate, very detailed Victorian card receiver with a deer by the silver plate company Rockford. The top repoussea€? is of an ornate garden scene with urns, flowers and birds.Heavy metal Victorian card receiver with a square tray with deep repousse of scrolling morning glory and bell flower with garden urns on two sides and two large birds on two sides opposing the urns. There are even small spider webs by the birds. The work is deep and well done. The edge on the top surface is a repeating floral circle chain. The under edge of the top has a hanging pierced fence. The central well in the top may have held a square piece of glass. Underneath the canopy of the top is a stag deer that is cautiously moving. The top canopy is suspended by two curved metal rods that are attached under the canopy and again on the round base. The tops and bases of the rods have decorations where they attach of leaves and cherries. The base is circular with a trim design encircling the bottom edge of squares with decorative circles inside. A teardrop finial hangs under top of the central well.There is an engraved mark that reads, a€?QUADRUPLE ROCKFORD SILVER P COa€ under the base. There is a design of scales with the number 1029MEASUREMENTS 5 ??a€ (13.3 cm) wide x 5 ??a€ (13.3 cm) long x 5 5/8a€ (14.3 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 2.9 oz (535 g)CONDITION There are some losses. Part of the cherries on one side of the rods holding up the piece is missing, as are the deera€?s antlers. The antlers have been filed down. There are a few tiny nicks on the edge of the top. The base edge has a few small dents. The silver has been polished off leaving just the base metal. The piece still shows exotically ornate.Lovely, ornate pieces like it started the Victoriana craze.
