An aged wood box with much delicate marquetry. I love the patina on the old wood. It has such detailed, delicate workmanship.A rectangular lidded wood box that is light weight. The box looks like mahogany but I think it is a veneer. Many other small pieces of wood have been inlaid into the surface. The designs are geometric and have contrasting colored woods. There is an old brass pin hinge. The front has a key hole and was locked with a key. The base of the box is a light colored and light weight wood. It has marks and wear from oxidization. The inside of the box was painted white, papered and had a quilted blue fabric lined separating piece. The inside edge is painted black. There are brass locking mechanisms on the inside.MEASUREMENTS 9 ??a€ (24.1 cm) long x 6 ??a€ (9.5 cm) wide x 5 ??a€ (14.0 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 12.7 oz (815 g)CONDITION Small pieces of marquetry that are lost, especially on the edges. The marquetry has shrunk with age so some have warped. There are stains on the sides. The base has a crack which also shows on the inside. There are stains on the inside and wear to the fabric on the separating board. The key hole on the front shows damage from people trying to open the lock. Even with all the small damages, the box has a glow of age and antiquity. An elegant, rich, looking box with much expert hand work from an earlier age. It will add greatly to a rich look of age in your d??cor. A great piece to add to a collection of antique wood boxes.Item ID: A-1058
