Heavy blue and white lidded serving bowl made in Canton China for the American trade. The pattern is the precursor to the willow ware pattern.A heavy porcelain deep serving dish of rectangular shape that has been glazed with a thick, very smooth, slightly blue cast, shiny glaze. The cobalt under glaze design on the interior of the dish is of fishing boats on a lake with pagodas, bridges, and a willow tree. Each side outside has a single flower. The lid has the almost identical scene as the bottom but with a berry knob finial. They both have the distinctive blue borders. Both the lid and the dish have edges that are not glazed. The foot on the base is also not glazed but the base is.There are no marks or labels.MEASUREMENTS 7 7/8a€ (20 cm) x 6 ??a€ (17.1 cm) x 4 ??a€ (12.1 cm) tall. Weighs 2 lb 3.8 oz (1015 g)CONDITIONThere are no chips, cracks, or breaks. Both pieces ring true. There are kiln flaws like black spots, pin holes, pimples, and glaze drips. There are a few tiny frits on the lid edge. The lid doesna€?t fit the base snugly. It may be a marriage because painting on the base and lid are a bit different, although the cobalt color matches. They are both bright and shiny. The dish would make a good addition to a display of blue and white or a collection of early American porcelain. You can never have enough blue and white.Item ID: Por-1852
