Hand potted and hand painted blue and white Chinese porcelain tea caddy that has a classic Chinese motif of scholarsa€? objects and plantain leaves. The cobalt is a nice deep blue with no purplish cast.A cylindrical hand potted container with an unglazed foot ring and raised cut out foot. The sides have been painted with designs of vases with flowers, a butterfly, books, Daoist objects and plantain leaves. The cobalt has been used both as a wash and with delicate line painting. There are loop handles equidistant delineating front and back. There is a circular lid with unglazed flange that fits snugly on the unglazed mouth. The lid has a small cobalt painted knob for lifting the lid.The base is glazed and you can see the pottera€?s wheel marks under the glaze. There are faint cobalt rings at the mouth and above the base. The white body glaze is fairly white and contrasts well with the nice deep cobalt underglaze.There are no porcelain marks or labels.MEASUREMENTS 5 1/8a€ (13.0 cm) tall x 4 ??a€ (11.4 cm) wide x 4a€ (10.2 cm) diameter.
