Very detailed and delicate cobalt blue painting on this Japanese porcelain dish. It is amazing how accurate they could get with the cobalt blue.A four sided indented edge on this delicate porcelain bowl. The inside well has a precise accurate painting of a castle overlooking the oceans with trees, clouds, mountains and a pilgrim. The waves on the ocean are even choppy. The inside edge borders have scrolling, fretwork, and cross-hatching. The back is also well decorated with line edges, plants, and flowers. The glaze feel thick, smooth and shiny. The white glaze has a slight bluish cast. Under glaze cobalt is used and varies in shading and depth, and has a nice soft blue color. The bowl has a raised unglazed foot ring and a glazed base. It has a nice weight and feels solid, and rests level on its foot ring, which has a nice smooth feel. Definitely a quality piece produced with much expertise. There is a Japanese character in cobalt blue on the base center.MEASUREMENTS 6a€ (15.2 cm) diameter x 1 ??a€ (4.4 cm) tall. Weighs 8.6 oz (245 g)CONDITION The piece has no cracks, chips, or breaks. It has a cobalt explosion from the kiln in the center well. It also has a few irregular wear scratches to the center.A well-made and decorated old piece of Japanese porcelain. I love how the shape is different and adds a uniqueness to the bowl.Item ID: Por-913
