Much hand work by an experienced painter.A large, heavy, ovoid Chinese porcelain jar with under glaze cobalt painted in a design of the double happiness symbol surrounded by peony scrolling. There is a key fret border below the mouth. The outer mouth and partial shoulder are not glazed. The jar would have had a flat round matching lid. The cut rounded foot is also not glazed, but the base is glazed. The foot is smooth from wear over the years. You can see the pottera€?s wheel marks on the unglazed mouth clay. The glaze feels smooth, thick and looks shiny.There are red Chinese export marks stamped on the body.MEASUREMENTS 8 7/8a€ (22.6 cm) tall x 8 ??a€ (21.0 cm) diameter. Weighs 4 lb 0.7 oz (1.84 kg)CONDITION There are no cracks, breaks, or chips. There is a spider crack on the jar inside but it doesna€?t go through. There are wear scratches on the body from age and use. They dona€?t detract from the look of the piece. The glaze still looks bright and fresh.A nice large piece that can be seen from across a room.
