Ornate over-the-top sugar bowl with a transfer design reminiscent of chinoiserie. The transfer has blurred and flowed. Very old and delightful.Octagonal molded ironstone. Everything about this piece is octagonal: the mouth, the lid, the body and the base. The handles are ornate and attached at the juncture of two panels. The dark black transfer design is of a garden with people near what looks to be a church. The transfer is very blurred and has flowed like a watercolor. There is a nice contrast of dark and light. The willows stand out the best. The base white is glossy but not stark white; it has a bluish tinge. The glaze is crackled or crazed. The foot ring is barely glazed. The lid flange and corresponding mouth indentation are glazed. There are no manufacturera€?s marks or labels.MEASUREMENTS 8 ??a€ (21.6 cm) tall x 6a€ (15.2 cm) wide x 5 1/8a€ (13 cm) deep.
