A detailed cobalt blue on white stenciled design of Japanese fishing boats in full sail on the waves with pine branches overhead.A heavy porcelain charger with a crimped edge that has been coated in an iron brown glaze to protect the edge from chipping. Under glaze cobalt has been used in stenciling the design. The design has movement showing the waves around the fishing boats. You can see the waves hitting the hulls of the boats and the pine branches as the ships pass by islands or shore. The charger has also been molded with patterns in both sails. The cobalt used is a nice medium blue with no traces of purple. The glaze is thick and smooth and it looks shiny. The shallow rounded foot is not glazed but the base is. There are cobalt lines above the foot and three equidistant floral scrolls on the chargers underside. There is a stamped mark on the base and under the glaze that I could not make it out.MEASUREMENTS 12a€ (30.5 cm) diameter x 1 ??a€ (3.8 cm) tall.
