Intricately hand-painted Japanese shallow bowl with a pale celadon glaze. The cobalt is a nice dark smoky blue. The edges of this ten-sided bowl has unusual indents. The bowl has been painted with cobalt in an intricate design of pagodas on the seashore with mountains in the distance and ships sailing before them. The sides are painted in brocade patterns that alternate. The painting is very fine with lines that are so small and perfect. The glaze is a pale celadon glaze that is thick and feels so soft. (You can't really see the pale green cast in the photos, but there is one). The foot ring is extremely soft and fine. It is unglazed and feels like butter. The base is glazed. The dish is lightly potted by hand and you can see rings of the potter under the glaze on the base. Much work and thought went into making this bowl. There is a mark on the base in cobalt.MEASUREMENTS 6 ??a€ (16.5 cm) diameter x 1 ??a€ (3.8 cm) tall. Weighs 9.2 oz (265 g)CONDITION There are no cracks, chips, or breaks, and the bowl rings true. There are fine scratches on the bowl interior but they can hardly be seen. This shows the bowl has age.A very fine bowl with superior painting and workmanship. When held up to the light, you can see your fingers behind. A great bowl.Item ID: Por-1038
