A hand thrown and hand painted Japanese saucer with minute paintings in gold, under glaze cobalt and red enamel. The designs are so well balanced yet have a feeling of a free hand when they were painted. The painting is exact and fine. The designs were made using cobalt blue under glaze with gold and red over glaze enamels. The line quality is very good. The porcelain of the unglazed foot is very smooth and refined. The white glaze is refined with a smooth, thick feeling and looks white with no blue cast.MEASUREMENTS 6a€ (15.2 cm) diameter x 1 1/8a€ (2.9 cm) tall. Weighs 6.5 oz (185 g)CONDITION There are no cracks, chips or breaks. The saucer rings like a bell. There is wear to the gold enameling on the rim edge and the central surface. The enamels still look fresh and bright. There are kiln flaws like pin holes, and black spots.Ita€?s hard to imagine someone having the patience to paint these tiny designs. The saucer is a small gem, so colorful and intricate.___________________Item ID: Por-1673
