Colorful golden plate with unusual texture and feel. Japanese sensibilities shine through in the designs on this plate. The background of this contoured edged porcelain plate has liberal use of white over-glaze to form blossoms with a raised pattern. The effect feels like little knobs to the touch and an almost abstract feel to the background. Two brown tree trunks weave their way through the field of blossoms, surrounded by an extensive use of gold. It just glitter! The central medallion has a foliate and floral scroll applied in both under glaze blue and over glaze cobalt enamels with gold accents. Surrounding the central medallion is a ring of green leaves emanating from the trunks of the trees. Two medallions have sketches of a scholar in gold and pink. Two larger medallions contain a pair of carefree horses painted with gold, pink and brown. The edge of the plate has been gilded with a pale underglaze blue ring just below this edge.On the backside are cobalt octopus scrolls around the base with multiple cobalt rings around the foot ring. The base is glazed but the foot ring is unglazed. The hand potting and hand painting is professional with good quality. The plate is heavy and the glazes thick.
