Description: Bronze. India, approx. 17th to 18th century
A small tribal bronze depicts an elephant with large head and pointed tusks upon which a crowned deity in the style of the Khandoba (a popular rural deity) is seated, holding a weapon. The elephant Gaja is the mount of kings and symbolizes power.

Condition: Condition consistent with age; strong patina, remnants of gilding
