Description ATTRIBUTED TO DONG QICHANG 1555 - 1636 Mountain Landscape ink and colour on silk hanging scroll, inscribed, signed and three red seal of the artist. This scroll together with a Japanese flag and Japanese Naval officers Dirk and Proclamation to the People of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (LOUIS MOUNTBATTEN Supreme Allied Commander Southeast Asia) were given to Major R.W. Scott (M.B.E) (K.I.H) by Major General Itsuki Toshi and Captain M Ueda at the cessation of Hostilities on Car Nicobar Island 24th of October 1945. 傳 董其昌 山水 水墨絹本,立軸 題識,簽名,鈐印。 以及一面署有“日本海軍民政部”的日本國旗,五把日本海軍軍官短刀劍及《安達曼—尼科巴群島告民眾書》 源流: 朱國良收藏。 日本陸軍少將 Itsuki Toshi(井月俊)舊藏。 R. Scott and Sotheby's London in 1963 and 1973; letter between Mrs D. E. Scott and Commonwealth of Australia, Office of the Australian Government Trade Commissioner in 1964; letter between Mrs. D. E. Scott and Christie's in 1975. This Dong Qichang painting scroll together with a Japanese flag and Japanese Naval officer's dirk and Proclamation to the People of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (LOUIS MOUNTBATTEN Supreme Allied Commander Southeast Asia) were given to Major R.W. Scott (M.B.E) (K.I.H) by Major General Itsuki Toshi and Captain M Ueda at the cessation of Hostilities on Car Nicobar Island 24th of October 1945. The Proclamation No.1 has on the back the names and stamps of the Japanese senior officers along with the signatures of Chief Administrator Deputy Commissioner Nicobar Islands Major R.W. Scott & Local Commander of Car Nicobar Major Singh. Major R.W. Scott along with his wife were the only Europeans living on Car Nicobar Island from about 1934 to 1942. When the war broke out in 1939, he oversaw the Nicobar Islands as Assistant Commissioner. His work kept him in close contact with the services especially the R. A. F to whom he supplied Labour for building the barracks in Nancowry Harbour. The islands were Bobed in 1942 and The Mine Sweeper "Sophie Marie" was sent to take them off. The ship struck a mine off the rescued after being in the water for a few hours and taken to Port Blair where Sir Charles Waterfull, Chief Commissioner, gave him clothes and a pair of shoes. Sir Charles assisted him to get away from the Japanese and after reaching India was employed as a secret agent in 136 attached to the Dutch Submarine Squadron at Colombo. In 1944, he was persuaded to accept an emergency commission (2nd Gurkhas Dehra) and was with the 116 Infantry Brigade on the H. M. S. Rocksand when they landed back on the Car Nicobar Island 24th October 1945. Major Scott left the Nicobars in late 1945 and returned to his regiment in India retiring on the 26th of October 1948 to Devonport Tasmania Australia. He met Dorothy (the current owner's Auntie) and they married in 1955. Major Robert Scott passed away at the age of 75 in 1963, and the scroll, flag and dirks were passed on at the passing of Dorothy. K.I.H.: Kaiser - I - Hind first class gold medal for social services in India (Nicobar Islands) M.B.E.: 14th of June 1945 was given an Order of the British Empire to be Members of Civil Division by his Imperial Majesty the KING EMPEROR OF INDIA. Major General Itsuki Toshi was the General Chairman of the Committee for Civil Administration on Car Nicobar Island March 1944 to October 1945. Major General Itsuki was brought before the Singapore war Trials in March 1946 and due to the atrocities on Car Nicobar sentenced to Death by Shooting. Captain Udea Mitsuharu: Japanese military brought before the Singapore war trials in March 1946 found guilty given 15 years.
