The heavy bronze body displays a naturally aged reddish-brown patina with scattered dark mineral deposits and subtle traces of oxidation developed over time. The animal mask ring handles, openwork ruyi cloud-pattern feet, and the “Da Ming Xuande Nian Zhi” mark on the base are well preserved. The interior remains clean with natural signs of historical use. Provenance: Private Collection, California, USA,Description: This finely cast bronze incense burner is crafted in a classic fangdou form, featuring a wider upper section, tapered lower body, and straight walls that create a strong and balanced silhouette. The design reflects the elegance of ancient ritual vessels while maintaining the refined character of a scholar’s object. Each side of the body is framed with a raised panel and decorated with a high-relief animal mask holding a circular ring handle. The masks are carefully rendered with flowing cloud-like brows, expressive round eyes, and an archaic, dignified appearance. The thick ring handles are smoothly cast and integrated into the design with exceptional craftsmanship. The four feet feature openwork ruyi cloud motifs, adding movement and decorative balance to the structured square form. The surface displays a rich reddish-brown bronze patina with naturally scattered dark encrustation and traces of aged cinnabar-colored residue. The layered patina gives the piece a warm and authentic antique appearance. The interior remains clean with visible casting texture, while the base bears a square seal-script inscription reading “Da Ming Xuande Nian Zhi,” executed with strong and precise workmanship. Combining ancient bronze vessel inspiration with Ming dynasty Xuande-style incense burner aesthetics, this rare fangdou-form bronze burner is suitable for incense appreciation or elegant display in a scholar’s studio. It represents a fine example of Chinese archaistic bronze craftsmanship with strong decorative and collectible appeal.
