Description: AN INSCRIBED NEPALESE GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF STANDING VISHNU EARLY 16TH CENTURY, DATED 1538
Standing on a single lotus base, holding the conch, mace, lotus bud and dharmacakra in his four hands, wearing a crown and elaborately detailed dhoti and jewellery, with a flame mandorla behind his head, with an inscription around the bottom of the lotus base reading "[Nepalese] era 658, waxing fortnight of the month of Asadh, for the departed Babudev..." this fire-gilt high copper-content bronze is finely cast and beautifully detailed.
