Description: A PAIR OF FINE TWO PANEL JAPANESE SCREENS EDO PERIOD, EARLY 19TH CENTURY
Painted on silk and evoking the spirit of the Musashino plain - marshlands which once existed to the south-west of Tokyo. Late Summer grasses and Kuma Zasa (Low Growing Bamboo) placed purposefully across the four panels and mounted on quality silk brocade with quality kanagu (metalwork fittings) featuring a tortise shell design.

Screens depicting Musashino are one of the great classical subjects of Japanese art. 'Meisho-e', literally 'famous places') were immortalised by famous poems and/or literary tales.
