A fine Japanese red lacquer box. Meiji period. The lid finely enameled in gilt Takamaki-e depicting a temple lion over an iron red lacquered ground. The interior and underside of the box decorated with Maki-e over a black lacquer ground. Measures 5.75" wide, 5.75" deep, 2-3/8" high. With wooden presentation box.
