An exceptionally fine Japanese lacquer miniature cabinet, Meiji period. Finely enameled in gilt Takamaki-e over a black lacquered ground, depicting luxuriant landscape village scenes on five sides. The hinged door opens to a fitted interior with three graduated drawers having gilt geometric designs over iron red, black and gold lacquer. Maki-e on the interior and sides of the drawers and on the underside of the cabinet. The interior of the door decorated with abundant flowers and foliage. Metal pulls, hinges, handle and lock. Measures 4" wide, 6" deep, 4.75" high. Comes with a dovetailed wood presentation box with calligraphy script on the exterior lid.
