A very fine Japanese six part / five-case lacquered inro, Meiji period. Designed on the two opposing sides with exceptional gilt decoration depicting great herons / egrets in flight over a luxuriant landscape setting. A tortoise / turtle on both sides rests beneath a pine tree. The lid depicts the sky and clouds. The interior maki-e decorated. Measures 4" high, 2." wide, 1.25" deep.
