The vase has a koi fish motif with five ornate orange and gilt gold glazed fish against a deep blue ground. The five koi fish symbolize the five blessings known as "wufu", as the number five is regarded as an auspicious number in Chinese traditions and closely associated with the Five Elements, which are the basic organizational principle in Chinese thought. These five blessings are health, wealth, long life, Love of virtue and peaceful death.
