A GOOD IVORY NETSUKE OF A DUTCHMAN WITH TRUMPET
Ivory netsukeJapanlate 18th century, Edo period (1615-1868)The dutchman, recognizable by his foreign clothes, boots and characteristic trumpet, is standing tall and laughing with his eyes wide open. He holds the trumpet in his left hand and the cord for attachment in his right hand. His coat, as well as the back of his boots are inlaid with black horn buttons. He has a long beard and his hair is arranged in many expressive curls. Good detail to the folds of his clothes and the ivory bears a very good colour and patina.
