Large Chinese Qing Dynasty blue and white moon flask vase resting upon a carved hardwood stand. Large compressed octagonal form leading to a cylindrical shaped neck, raised upon a concaved rectangular foot base. Scrolling floral shaped handles flanked on the neck down to the collars. The main decorations depicted quails within landscape scene within a round cartouche. Filled with auspicious floral and fruiting abundant patterns. All reserved in attractive blue underglazed against clean white ground. Quails represent happiness and hope in Chinese culture. The moon vase elegantly displayed upon elaborately carved hardwood stand. Underbase with Qianlong six characters reign mark in underglaze blue, Qing Dynasty.
PROVENANCE: James Barnes (1939-2016) of Memphis, TN; survived by two sisters who have decided to sell some of his treasured collections to fund charitable foundations that he was actively involved in. These collections were inherited from his Father-in-law (Kenneth Harlin) at his passing in 1967. Mr. Harlin had an early film career in the 1920-1930s as an international traveler he was able to bring back treasures from around the world.
