Japan, Edo Period, ca. 1650 to 1800 CE. Japanese fine bronze water dropper (Suiteka) in the form of a squat pitcher, embellished with dragonfly, landscape and animal form handle. Vessels such as this were used to drip small amounts of water on ink stones for use in Japanese calligraphy. An early and very fine example! Size: 4" L x 1.875" H (10.2 cm x 4.8 cm)
