Japan, Edo Period, ca. 1800 to 1850 CE. Fine bronze water dropper (Suiteka) in the form of a ceremonial drum. Circular vessel with attached upper and lower drum skins, small spout and fill-hole. Vessels such as this were used to drip small amounts of water on ink stones for use in Japanese calligraphy. Size: 2" W (5.1 cm).
