Annamese (sometimes Anamese), modern day Vietnam, ca. 15th to 16th century CE. This is a brown and moss green glazed pedestal bowl with a flared foot and linear banded green decorations around the exterior and interior; the interior sides of the bowl have a crosshatched design. Annamese ware was inspired by Chinese artisans -- in fact, the first known factory, built in 1465 in Bac-ninh, was probably settled by the Chinese. Size: 8.5" W x 5" H (21.6 cm x 12.7 cm).
Provenance: Ex-private Smith collection, California, acquired before 1985.

Repair to crack that extends from rim down the side of the bowl (but does not reach the base). Otherwise some signs of wear but designs and shape are clear.
