China, Qing (Ching) Dynasty, ca. 1644 to 1912 (but certainly made much earlier than 1912). Very fine jade carving in the form of a reclining Chimera. Made of celadon jade with areas of brown occlusions. Beast rests with his head on his forelegs, contented smile on his face. A lovely piece of jade! Size: 2.75" L x 1" H (7 cm x 2.5 cm)
Provenance: Ex-Paul & Louise Bernheimer collection, Cambridge, MA and Laguna Woods, CA., acquired before 1980
