Far East, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. An intricately sculpted miniature Buddha incised with a maker's mark on the underside, with an expressive smiling face and characteristically elongated ears, sitting in half lotus position with hands beside his pronounced belly, one holding a sack. Wonderful detailing of his flowing robe, corpulent body, and facial features - even laugh lines! The stone is a beautiful pale green hue, for the most part opaque, with areas of translucency, particularly at peripheries. Size: 1.375" W x 1.625" H (3.5 cm x 4.1 cm)
Provenance: Estate of Paul & Louise Bernheimer

Tiny, nearly invisible nick to handle of sack that Buddha holds. Otherwise intact and excellent.
