Pre-Columbian, Colima, West Mexico, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This is a finely carved stone axe depicting a flying shaman with a large nose and expressive face. His hands and legs are curled at his sides and he appears to squint into the wind coming towards him, making this a very dynamic carving. Comes with custom base. Size: 5.5" L x 2.5" W (14 cm x 6.4 cm).
Provenance: Ex-private collection of Dr. Peter Arnowick, Los Altos, CA, collected before 1970.
