Description: Han Dynasty, BC 206 - AD 220. This good terra cotta example of a recumbent horse decorated overall in red pigment with geometric panels and designs, many with stripes and dotted decoration. The head with stylized bridle. The figure with an elongated muzzle. Ears were originally of wood and are now absent. The tail, probably of horse hair, also absent. Provenance: From the estate collection of Ms. Janet De Coux and Ms. Eliza Miller by decent to the current owner. Note: This object is accompanied by a receipt from the gallery of Ching Tsai Loo, New York City and Paris France, dated 1952. Decorated surfaces now dry and flaking. Decoration remains visible.
