Description: Bronze, India, Post-Gupta 8th century H: 14 cm A four-armed Ganesha in lotus pose sitting on a double lotus base. Three of his arms are missing, the fourth hand is also missing. His trunk is directed to the right. His mount animal, the mouse is sitting on the right side of the lotus base, looking up to the god. Ganesha is wearing a pleated dhoti. The sacred thread, also called Yajnopavita, is falling wavily over his round, portruding belly, a distinctive attribute in his earliest depictions. It is also said his belly is so big because universes of the past, the present and the future are present in him. His eyes are wide open, looking straight with a calm expression, little tusks are showing beside his trunk. His ears are fanned out, hearing all petitions and pleas. On his head sits an elaborately designed three-pointed crown.
