TWO GLAZED STONEWARE BOWLS
TWO GLAZED STONEWARE BOWLS
Glazed stoneware
China, Ming dynasty (1368-1644)
Both pieces have curved sides as well as cobalt-blue painting attractively depicting four horseback riders on their steeds, along with birds and plants, on each bowl. Multiple rings running around the bowl. In the center is a rather abstractly painted bird in front of a tree inside such rings. One bowl has a tight, fine craquelure, while the other, formally slightly inconsistent - has deposit build up in the well.
