A VERY RARE AND UNUSUAL WHIMSICAL KONDH TRIBAL BRONZE OF A SHEEP
A VERY RARE AND UNUSUAL WHIMSICAL KONDH TRIBAL BRONZE OF A SHEEP
Copper bronze
Eastern India, Kondh Tribe, late 19th – early 20th century
This very unusual bronze likely depicts a sheep, with the large amount of wooly fur expressed with the ‘wire mesh pattern’ and the large bulbous body. It seems almost impossible for the sheep to carry its enormous body with its very small and thin legs. It has a whimsical expression with large ‘button eyes’.
