Exceptional collection of 18th-cent. engraved gores & calottes printed in their ORIGINAL FORM meant for a celestial table globe published by the Dutch cartographers Gerhard Valck (1652-1726) & Leonhard Valck (1675-1746). The beautiful engravings depict various constellations (all stars HEIGHTENED WITH GOLD) in the shape of mythological figures & animals (incl. the 12 signs of the Zodiac) based on the celestial atlas “Firmamentum Sobiescianum sive Uranographia [..]” (Gdansk, 1687) by the Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius (1611-1687). – With defects (for the greater part expertly restored).
